Palazzo Ducale — the seat of the Doge (Venice's elected leader) and the Republic's government from the 14th century until Napoleon arrived in 1797.

  • The Secret Itineraries Tour is the move — small group, behind-the- scenes route through prison cells, torture chambers, and Casanova's escape route. Book weeks ahead.
  • Bridge of Sighs: named because prisoners reportedly sighed at their last view of Venice before crossing into the prison
  • Highlights: Sala del Maggior Consiglio (huge council chamber with Tintoretto's Paradise — one of the largest oil paintings ever)
  • Allow 2–3 hours
